Questions

At Holistic Elements, we believe that patient education is a central component in both treatment outcomes and overall health. We encourage our patients to ask questions and be an active partner in their healthcare. We have answered some of the most common questions below:

Q: What is Eastern Functional Medicine?
Simply put, Eastern Functional Medicine is the result of the fusion between the best elements of both East and West. The body is viewed holistically; any disease is considered within that holistic framework and then appropriate diagnosis and care follow.  Read more here.

Q: Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture is typically not painful, and we strive to provide virtually painless treatments. However, depending on what is going on with the patient, certain points may illicit a more pronounced response during needling. If a point is sensitive, the sensation typically feels like a slight pinch, which passes immediately.

Q: Are there any age limitations for patients at Holistic Elements?
No, Holistic Elements treats patients in all stages of life, from neonates to those needing end-of-life care and everyone in between. Certain service may not be available to all patients, so please visit the appropriate page to find out if there are any age limitations for a service in which you may be interested.

Q: If you treat pediatric patients, can you fill out my children’s school-required health forms?
Unfortunately, at the present time we are not legally able to complete the forms required by the State of North Carolina for enrollment in school. Current regulations require that these forms, and the corresponding health assessments, be completed by an MD, DO, PA, FNP, or the local health department.

Q: Will I be required to take herbs or other supplements as part of my treatment?
At Holistic Elements, we believe that successful treatment often requires the deployment of multiple modalities, and this may include herbs or other nutritional supplements. However, patients are never required to take any herbs or supplements which may be recommended by your practitioner. Patients are typically educated on the benefits of the recommended therapies, and the decision about whether or not to move forward with them is left up to the patient.
